| Working within a limited area between two hospital
wings, Erickson managed this challenging expansion of the Radiation
/ Oncology Department. The addition was created to accommodate the
installation of a state-of-the-art Leksell Gamma Knife Unit for radiosurgery
procedures.
The new space also includes associated patient preparation, recovery,
treatment planning, reception and waiting areas.
The first installation of its kind in the world, this unique Gamma
Knife FastSITE Unit, designed in Sweden, consists of three modules
that make up the treatment and control rooms and shield the surrounding
spaces from radiation by using steel cavity walls and ceilings filled
with water.
